Alice Little Fortenberry, 91, passed away November 4, 2013 in Quincy, FL. She was born March 12, 1922 in Columbia, MS to Henry and Mittie Campbell Little. She was the youngest of five children.
She graduated from high school in Columbia, attended River Pearl Junior College and graduated from Methodist Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS as a registered nurse. She was thrilled to have taken care of returning soldiers in the VA Hospital in Biloxi, MS. She then married and moved to Florida where she worked in hospitals in Tallahassee and Quincy. She also worked with the late Dr. Hillard R. Reddick in Quincy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Quincy where she worked for many years in the pre-school Sunday School.
She is survived by her children, Brenda F. (Johnny) Haire of Havana, FL., Sandra F. (Harvey) Buchanan of Tallahassee, FL., and John C. (Pam) Fortenberry of Columbus, GA.; grandchildren, Drew Fortenberry, Greg (Scarlett) Buchanan, Alex Buchanan and Hannah Buchanan. She is also survived by a special niece, Carol Rainey Garrison of Panama City, FL.
She was predeceased by; her parents; her siblings, Eugene L. Barnes, Hilma Fraiser, Johnnie Lee Johnson and Sammie Lou Rainey; and a grandchild, Aaron Buchanan.
Visitation was held Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church Chapel with the service following at 11:00 AM. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
