Gridley McKim-Smith, 70, of New York City and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, died Friday, October 18, in New York City.
She was born March 14, 1943, in Clinton. Iowa, to John McKim and Ann Templton McKim. She grew up in Ft Worth, Texas, received a B.A. from Tulane University in Romance Languages and Literatures and her M.A. and Ph. D. in Fine Arts from Harvard University. She was a professor at Bryn Mawr University from 1985 until her death.
Gridley was preceded in death by her parents and husband B. Frank Smith, III, originally of Quincy, Florida. She is survived by; her sister-in-law, Susan (Rick) Keyser; cousins in Illinois; and many close friends in New York and Bryn Mawr.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 4, at 11:00 A.M. in Hillcrest Cemetery, Quincy, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the service dog training organization that Gridley worked with due to her multiple sclerosis, The Gift of Sunshine, Inc.
