Thomas Dewayne Ponder was apprehended by the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) with assistance from the Leon County Aviation Unit and ACI K-9 teams Friday night after he escaped from a county court facility.
According to Captain Jim Corder, last Friday afternoon (September 13) Ponder was at the court facility for a hearing when he managed to slip out of one of his ankle shackles.
He was being moved to the transportation dock at the facility when he was able to get away from deputies.
Ponder ran away holding one ankle shackle in his hand. It was unclear how he managed to remove the shackle.
He eluded deputies for several hours and was found around 10 PM Friday night at an abandoned house east of Quincy.
Corder said he had water bottles in the house and still had the handcuffs and one shackle on when he was caught.
There are other charges now against Ponder including escape and burglary of a house, and authorities suspect he may have had an accomplice.
