Last Sunday was Rick’s and my 11th anniversary. We had met four years previously at a Vietnam veterans function (it was the most significant issue of our generation at the time), and we both felt something like a lightning bolt at the sight of each other. What a wonderful experience being with him and then being married to him has been!
I tried the marriage thing once before and it wasn’t a pretty experience, so I had avoided the institution like the plague ever since … until I met Rick. Even then, when we married (we were married at our home, surrounded by family and many friends by friend Jack Hanbury, a notary, who is proud to claim that all the people he’s married are still joined in wedded bliss), I was nervous. My sunflower bouquet was bobbing all over the place because my hands were shaking. I should have trusted my instincts that I had, at last, found a truly good man with a great big heart.
It’s wonderful, being in love with the man you live with. I wouldn’t have it any other way. So, thanks for all of these terrific years, Rick, and let’s enjoy another 20 or 30 years together!
