Part of an eight-foot-wide live oak tree fell on a house at 3845 Florida-Georgia Highway (US 27) late last Thursday, leaving huge holes and torn siding in its wake.
Homeowner Johnnie McRay said she’d heard what sounded like a big storm on Thursday evening as she and her daughters and grandchildren were enjoying the evening.
An adjacent mobile home that was occupied by her nephew, Eugene Richardson, was only inches from also being hit by the top branches of the tree.
Daughters Dorothy, Carolyn, Emma and McRay’s sister Shirley were all very thankful that everyone got out after parts of the roof came crashing in. No one was injured in the incident.
The family has no insurance and doesn’t know how they’ll get the limb off the house and the roof repaired. On Saturday, the house sported a large blue tarpaulin and family members and friends were cutting off parts of the downed tree limb that they could reach.
