Compared to other areas of the state, Gadsden County got off easy as Tropical Storm Frances came ashore south of Tallahassee. “We are very lucky that it didn’t come ashore farther to our west,” said Gadsden Co. Emergency Management Director Maj. Ed Spooner. During the storm’s hurricane stage it had caused billions of dollars in damage to South Florida. Unlike Leon County that was hit hard, Gadsden had only scattered reports of power outages and toppled trees.
