The Chipley Tigers boys’ basketball team jumped off to a 14-4 first quarter lead and never let West Gadsden get back in the picture in winning 60-43 in Friday night's Region II Class A FHSAA Finals played in Greensboro in front of a packed gym.
Trent Forrest helped the 26-3 Chipley team gain their second straight state Final Four trip with a 24-point, 14-rebound, and 6-assist game. Many of those assists wound up in the hands of Justin Campbell who scored 23 points, most of them coming on wide open lay-ups.
"They are the best team we faced all year," West Gadsden coach Andrew Moten said. "I have little doubt they won't win the state title."
Moten's team finished the season with another fine year, going 28-3.
