FLORIDA FOOTBALL OVERHAUL POSSIBLE:
The FHSAA is considering a major overhaul of the way teams qualify for the post-season and in doing so, it would greatly impact their scheduling for the regular season. If approved by the Board of Directors in the fall, and input beginning in 2017, it would impact 1A-4A schools differently from 5A-8A schools. One of the main reasons for the search for a new system has been the exodus of 80 football schools, primarily in the 2A classification, that opted for independent status. An additional reason is the number of classifications in football (9 classifications) has diluted the number of teams in a district; thus, allowing sub .500 teams to earn appearances in the post-season as runners-up.
