The participation survey results are in from all Florida High School Athletic Association schools across the state and below are the results:
• MOST PARTICIPATED SPORTS: Football. Makes sense since it requires more players to compete. (40,606)
• LEAST PARTICPATED SPORT: Competitive cheer. (435)
• SPORT WITH THE MOST TEAMS: Basketball (1,316 boys and girls teams in Florida). This fact also made it the second most-joined sport for boys but only the fifth for girls. [Full Story »]
Lewie D. Boutwell II (Dan) of Huntsville, AL (formally of Havana, FL) passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at his residence. A graduate of Leon High School, he served in the USN and was a Korean War Veteran.

In the South, all year is barbeque season. So it’s no big deal when winter ends and summer starts. But, this little ditty hits the nail on the head about us guys cooking in the back yard. I’m ashamed to say, this is how it works at my house: My wife does all the work while I take all the glory. She probably even wrote this. Long-time county civil rights activist Vivian Kelly, 84, died at Capital Regional Medical Center. Kelly was a native of Gadsden County who was a teacher and principal in the school system for almost 50 years. During those years she was also active in county politics and served as chairman of the Gadsden County Democratic Executive committee. [Full Story »]
