HYPE, HEAT AND HONOR:
Wonderful coverage by the Tallahassee Democrat both leading up to and following the inaugural Superintendent’s Bowl pre-season football game between East Gadsden and West Gadsden. The pregame coverage on Thursday included the history of the Shanks football teams that played at Corry Field before the school’s closing as a high school in 2003. Some of those teams were the school’s best, including its last season in 2002, which lost in regional finals by one point despite DeCody Fagg’s four touchdowns. The mid to late ‘90s produced some excellent teams and turned out players like Willie Simmons, Abdual Howard, Dexter Jackson and Leroy Smith. [Full Story »]
Waking up to the sound of Governor Rick Scott whining is a hard start to any day. I lay there and listened as he kvetched about the cuts in his job creation efforts, namely trimming the money for Enterprise Florida. Cut in half.

Quincy city commissioners learned during their August 23 meeting that Quincy had been chosen as Florida’s Friendliest Small Town by Florida Monthly Magazine. “Folks in Quincy and Gadsden County have long known what a great community we have,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director David Gardner when delivering the news. “It’s exciting to know other Floridians have the same opinion of Quincy as those of us who live and work here.” [Full Story »]
