Havana Ordinance #362 amending the town’s code of ordinances, allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. was unanimously approved by the town council without fanfare. Several nearby cafes have had the right to sell beer and wine on Sundays for many years.

The man responsible for bringing Havana back to life in the mid 1980s died after a lengthy fight with cancer. Thomas Keith Henderson, 58, of Havana and St. George Island, died at Hospice House in Tallahassee. Henderson, owner of H&H Antiques,changed the face of Havana when he bought a block of vacant buildings in 1984 with his partner and wife, Lee Hotchkiss, and turned them, along with three other pioneering entrepreneurs, into attractive antique shops and galleries. Andrew J. Hammitt, Jr. 62 of Havana, FL. passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Bainbridge Health Care.
The family will have a private burial at Nashville National Cemetery in Nashville, TN. At a later date. Faith Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements
Andrew was born September 23, 1951 in Nashville, the son of the late Andrew J. Hammitt, Sr and Mary Carpenter Hammit.

Gary Alexander Simpson, 56, of Havana, FL. passed away on Sunday July 27, 2014 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Faith Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Charles Pettis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow at Meadow Wood Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallahassee, FL.
Gary was born July 5, 1958 in Ft Myers, FL. the son of James Lee Simpson and the late Gerlean H. Simpson. He has lived in the Tallahassee area most of his life. He was employed with Simpson Electric for many years and later helped run the family business Havana Sod Farms. He was a member of Tallahassee Church of God. Gary also served as passed president of Northside Lions Club in Tallahassee. He was an avid NASCAR and avid FSU fan. Gary had a deep appreciation for Devita Dialysis Center Staff (northside) in Tallahassee.
He is survived by his father James L. Simpson. He is preceded in death by his mother Gerlean H. Simpson
