Havana Ordinance #362 amending the town’s code of ordinances, allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. was unanimously approved by the town council without fanfare. Several nearby cafes have had the right to sell beer and wine on Sundays for many years.

The man responsible for bringing Havana back to life in the mid 1980s died after a lengthy fight with cancer. Thomas Keith Henderson, 58, of Havana and St. George Island, died at Hospice House in Tallahassee. Henderson, owner of H&H Antiques,changed the face of Havana when he bought a block of vacant buildings in 1984 with his partner and wife, Lee Hotchkiss, and turned them, along with three other pioneering entrepreneurs, into attractive antique shops and galleries.
