I never figured Bill Clinton as a choirboy. His reputation in Arkansas was of a very talented politician, a brilliant communicator, but a fellow with the nickname “Slick Willie” and a fondness for the fair sex that had the old dog off the porch periodically.

Members of the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce were treated to a tour of the new Tri-Eagle Sales distribution center located at the Hammock Creek office park near Midway. Director of Community Affairs Kristen Black, who conducted the tour, said Tri-Eagle, a distributor for Anheuser-Busch, supplied more than 800 customers in a 9-county area. She said the company employed 110 people and distributed 3.3 million cases of beer a year. [Full Story »]
Wilton “Dick” Avirett passed away on May 27, 2015 in Pahrump, Nevada.
Dick was born in Havana, Fl. on Nov. 27, 1932. He attended the old Havana High School before joining the U.S. Air Force. As a Staff Sgt. in the Air Force, he served as a Generals aid.
After finishing his time in the military, Dick moved to Seattle, Washington and became an employee of Boeing Airplane Co., where he worked for more than 30 yrs.
Before his retirement from Boeing, Dick was the supervisor of Quality Control. He had to approve each commercial airplane before it went into service. He was proud of the fact that he had approved over 3,000 airplanes for service, one of which was Boeings first 747.
Dick loved life and lived it to the fullest.
After retirement, he and his wife, Betty, settled in Pahrum, Nevada where they enjoyed a much drier climate, made many friends and never missed a garage sale.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Glenna Martin Avirett, second wife Betty Richards Avirett, son Gregory Avirett, parents Nettie and Roe Avirett, sisters Betty Avirett, Hattie A. Mitchell, brother Willie Roe Avirett.
Dick is survived by his son Russell (Sandy), grandchildren Jenny Attwood, Jeffery Avirett, great-grandchildren Stephanie Attwood, Katie Attwood, Jacob Attwood, Tyler Avirett and Kendra Avirett all of Black Diamond, Washington.
Local survivors are sisters Louise A. Bates of Havana and Mary Alice Croley of Quincy.
A service will be held at a later date at the Nicholson-Freeman cemetery in Havana.
Mrs. Doris Roberts, 79 years of age, of Havana, FL, died on Monday, June 1, 2015 in Tallahassee, FL. The service is 3:00 p.m., EST, Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Mt. Zion AME Church, of Havana, FL with burial at Church's Cemetery, of Havana, FL. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m., on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Williams Funeral Home of Quincy, Florida. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Roberts, of Havana, FL, five sons, Larry Jones, of Tampa, FL, Charles Roberts (Pricella), John Roberts (Orlanda), both of Tallahassee, FL, George Roberts (Anissa), of Aberdeen, Maryland, Steve Roberts, of Kansas City, Kansas and two daughters, Caroline Wyatt, Cairo, GA, Frandell Winn (Lyod), of Bainbridge, GA, host of grands and great grands, three sisters, Deaconess Katrine Harris of Tampa, FL, Bernice Glasgow of New York and Virginia Scott Pease of Tallahassee, FL. 2012 Munroe alumnus and baseball player Alex Gay has played baseball for two seasons and recuperated for one at Wallace College in Dothan. With his eligibility up at Wallace and continually nursing a bad wrist, it looked like Gay would be hanging up his cleats on a stellar baseball career. But hang on, instead. Gay had a stellar final month of baseball for the Govs and has several suitors calling. The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office of the Second Judicial Circuit-Quincy, announced last Wednesday that 27-year-old Dekendrick Lamar Ford has been charged in the 2011 homicide of a 23-year-old mother of two, Teresa Manuel. Ford, who was 23 at the time, was indicted for killing Manuel, his live-in girlfriend, after a dispute.
