This NCAA Basketball Tournament Sweet Sixteen week will indeed be sweet.
Each one of the group has a legitimate chance to make the Final Four, especially with the way the brackets have fallen.
Let’s start with the East bracket where the match-ups have Florida playing Wisconsin and South Carolina facing Baylor in New York City.
The Gators are plenty capable of using their defense and transition game to get through the bracket. The Badgers are patient enough to dispose of two opponents and the
Gamecocks and Bears have enough quickness to reach the finals.
In the Midwest, Michigan and Oregon and Purdue and Kansas are the match-ups.
The Wolverines seem to be peaking just right, the Ducks have height and quickness, the Boilermakers have a lot of bulk, while the Jayhawks not only have the all-around talent but they also have a more than somewhat home advantage in the Kansas City Regional.
The West Regional will be held in San Jose with a scrappy West Virginia bunch facing an experienced Gonzaga bunch and a strong Xavier team meeting a long Arizona team. All of them have the capabilities of escaping the region.
Then there's the South Region which will be played in Memphis among teams with bunches of college basketball history.
A talented bunch of Tar Heels from North Carolina will face a savvy Butler team and Kentucky's always athletic squad will meet a long and deep UCLA team in Friday's games.
It's extra-tough to pick a Final Four from the pack, but here goes my take.
Florida will use their defense and quickness to capture the East.
Kansas gets a home advantage and wins the Midwest.
Gonzaga somehow gets out of the West.
And in the South, I threw a dart and it landed on North Carolina.
In all four cases these teams’ could be eliminated in their first game this weekend.
But that's what makes the Sweet Sixteen among the best sports weekends. This time around it's even sweeter.
