The first-ever Havana Soup Challenge will be held at Havana's stage on 7th Avenue West adjacent to the fountain on Saturday, November 12th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Up to 20 entrants will cook up their best homemade soups for event judges to taste and declare the winner at noon.
This is not a cook-off; three judges (who love to eat!) will test them all and make a decision on the best soup at noontime. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! START YOUR STOVES!
Those who want to test the soups themselves may get a bowl and spoon for $5.00. Proceeds will benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The Stone Cold Blues Band will play Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donation checks may be payable to St. Jude Research Hospital. For more information about the Soup Challenge, call Rick at 850.559.2645 or 850.539.7422, or stop by Mirror Image Antiques at 303 First Street NW in Havana.
This event is held concurrently with the Havana Merchants Association's (HMA) Holiday Open House, a town-wide customer appreciation reception on both Saturday and Sunday in the shops with hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Shops will be decorated for the festive Christmas season; check out decorations in your favorite stores! You may enter into a drawing at each shop that has a star on its door/window, and can hopefully win a $300, $150 or $50 holiday shopping spree, just in time for the holidays! The Holiday Open House continues on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Then, folks will gather at the town's Christmas tree next to Planters Exchange on 2nd Street NW for a tree-lighting ceremony and Christmas Carol singing.
