Yuck! I’ve just learned that all of us Coca-Cola lovers (well, just this once, we’ll include Pepsi drinkers, too) are being fed something in the drinks that sounds totally disgusting.
The substance, called brominated vegetable oil, has apparently been used unknowingly by the public for quite some time, at least 14 years. The companies are finally making plans to get rid of what was patented as a flame retardant in the drinks. They just don’t say how soon they’ll do it. At least the public is now becoming aware of the addition and calling for its removal, thanks to a 17-year Mississippi citizen advocate who initially wanted it out of her Gatorade and began posting petitions on Change.org. Sarah Kavenagh, you rock, girl!
On another note:
My favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves, is once again crashing and burning early in the season after a super start of winning most of its games. Unable as I am to watch many of the games on television because our satellite service doesn’t carry the Florida channels that usually show the games, I have to read between the lines in sports reports and statistics. Unfortunately, and most recently, it seems that my OTHER favorite team, the San Francisco Giants, dealt some heavy blows to the Braves. But don’t count the Braves out just yet. They have a history of coming out of Spring Training strong, falling apart for a while, then coming back for a great season. I’ll keep the faith, guys.
Love and happy Mother’s Day to my mom, Nikki Beare.
