Son Joey and I headed off to Dallas from his Auburn home last Thursday.
The first leg of the trip actually wound up being the best part.
We stopped in Brandon, Mississippi and truly enjoyed the hospitality of Trish and Jimmy Duncan.
Trish is a little southern belle. She is also Italian and you better believe knows how to cook. She made us a pasta meal that was to die for. It included sausage and meatballs and all the other trimmings that went with it.
After a fine night with the Duncans we headed for Dallas on Friday and not much else went right the rest of the trip.
For one, the group of guys we were staying with in Dallas ran into weather problems flying in and there were delays after delays.
Then on Saturday the weather started turning bad and all of our timeframes seemed to get off course.
We went downtown to see Tim McGraw in concert but only got to hear two songs because we had miscalculated the time to get to Jerry’s Palace in Arlington and see the first game of the Final Four.
I will tell you, Jerry’s Palace is something else with the marathon screen and all the other trimmings that go with the place.
I’ll also tell you I didn’t enjoy Florida losing to Connecticut, and I really just wanted to leave after that game.
On Sunday things didn’t go a lot better as we decided to come home and not stay for Monday’s finals.
We wanted to buy a few souvenirs but had trouble getting to them in downtown Dallas, making us unable to get on the road before 3 PM.
Then it rained and rained, before making Jackson where we spent Sunday night.
We got back to Auburn on Monday around noon and I drove into Quincy and got to attend the annual Jack Harnett-Tom Skipper NCAA Championship Bash, which as aways was fun. I, and the rest of the guys, thank Jack and Tom, but especially Litty for putting up with us.
All in all it was a good week. I got to spend time with my son, meet the Duncans, see Tim McGraw (though briefly), have fellowship with the final four gang, attend Jerry’s Palace, and see all the guys at Jack and Tom’s party. Life is really pretty good.
