Florida disposed of Albany and Pittsburgh in opening rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament last weekend in Orlando and will head to Memphis for their fourth straight appearance in the event’s Sweet Sixteen round.
The Gators are certainly hoping for better results than the last three times when the Gainesville school saw their season end before they could reach the Final Four phase.
I’ll predict in this column that they’ll get out of Memphis alive, as they will beat UCLA Thursday night and Stanford Saturday and get to go to Dallas the next weekend.
Last week, I got 11 of 16 Sweet Sixteen picks. Florida was the only pick I got right in the South Regional. I hit all the teams in the East Regional, and three of the four teams in the Midwest Regional. In the West Regional I had three of the four teams.
I think this will be a remarkable weekend of basketball play in the tournament because there are going to be some fascinating match-ups.
I predict that Virginia, Arizona and Michigan will join the Gators in the Final Four. You can rest assured the sports world will be centered in North Texas next weekend.
