This letter is in regard to the closing of the Social Security Administration Office in Gadsden County.
As you know, this will definitely have an impact on the lives and the economy of Gadsden County citizens. Many cannot afford transportation to Leon County and are not capable of driving in congested traffic in comparison to Gadsden County.
This Social Security Office provides service to individuals from Liberty County, Bainbridge, Ga., as well as the municipalities of Gadsden County: Quincy, Gretna, Chattahoochee, Mt. Pleasant, Greensboro, Midway and the town of Havana.
We’re presently protesting the SSA office closing at the site, corner of Hwy 90 and Circle Dr. We’re asking all concerned citizens to come out and let your voice be heard in support of keeping the SSA office open in Gadsden County.
Of all 52 counties within this region, Gadsden’s SSA office was chosen for closure, which is the only county in Florida with a majority Black population. Could this be the reason why? Makes you wonder.
We’re planning a rally for Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., on the south side Courthouse grounds. We need support from Gadsden citizens in this rally also. We’re calling on our civic leaders, County and City Commissioners, Clergy, Business Owners, Organizations and everyone of every race, nationality and age group to participate because this affects everyone. Please contact your elected officials to make sure you are being properly represented on this issue.
The Sheriff, County Commissioners Brenda Holt and Eric Hinson, City Commissioners, Representative Alan Williams, Senator Bill Nelson, NAACP, National Hook-Up of Black Women and Clergy are fighting for you! Join us on March 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.
