There could be a lot more college basketball to be played for both Florida and Florida State.
Both the men’s and women’s teams at the respective schools qualified for postseason play with the Gator men’s team grabbing the overall top seed in the NCAA Men’s Tournament, both women’s teams slated for NCAA Women’s Tournament action, and the Seminole men’s team getting an NIT bid.
The Florida men’s team plays their first game today (Thursday) at 4 PM facing the Albany/Mount St. Mary’s winner. A Gator win puts them in a Saturday game against either Colorado or Pittsburgh.
I’m picking Florida to get out off Orlando and advance to Memphis next weekend with Kansas and upset winners VCU and Ohio State.
Other Sweet Sixteen teams I predict will be Virginia, Michigan State, Iowa State, Connecticut, Arizona, San Diego State, Creighton, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke and Michigan.
Both Florida State and Florida got rough draws in the NCAA Women’s field. The Lady Seminoles are in the Stanford Regional and go to Ames, Iowa to play home-team Iowa State in a first round Saturday game.
The Lady Gators are also in the Stanford Regional. They play Dayton Sunday at 3 PM at University Park, Pennsylvania. A win would probably get them a game against home host Penn State.
For either team to get out of this weekend would be a long shot.
Florida State had an interesting first round NIT draw. The Seminoles hosted Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday night. A win by the Seminoles would allow them to host a second round game against the Georgetown-West Virginia winner.
