Girls’ basketball for all FHSAA member schools enters the final week of competition this week, as they finalize their seasons and enter district tournament competition next week.
In the final week of playing district games to determine district tournament seeding, both East Gadsden and Munroe picked up key district wins.
The Jaguars blasted both of their opponents last week. First they defeated Taylor County for a district win using a 28-point second quarter to surge to a 66-22 win behind Shanecia Bethea’s 23 points. Sharieka Gaymon and Deambrenique Davis each added 12 points.
In a non-district contest, the Jaguars outscored Jefferson County in every quarter to win easily, 60-19. They led 38-7 at the half and 10 players scored in the easy win. East Gadsden was led in scoring by Sharieka Gaymon with 16 points and Deambrenique Davis’ 11 points.
The team moved to 13-5 on the season with the two wins.
The Munroe Lady Cats had little offense to offer Poplar Springs last Tuesday night, dropping the contest 48-18.
On Thursday night they travelled to North Florida Christian and lost to the Lady Eagles. Kadejah Glynn scored 11 and Anna Jones pulled down 10 rebounds. Munroe was playing their first game without leading rebounder Mary Pat Thomas, who will miss the rest of the season with an ankle sprain that occurred in the Poplar Springs game earlier in the week.
Friday night before a homecoming crowd, the Lady Cats defeated district rival Aucilla Christian Academy 36-32. The game was tight for all four quarters with Munroe taking a 24-20 lead into the locker room at the half. Guards Jeri Sloan and Maddey Pappadakis combined for 23 points. Jones again led in rebounding with nine and Karleebeth Perkins and Sloan pulled down eight each. Sloan also had four steals.
