The Havana Police Department brought joy to boys and girls on Monday, December 23, when they presented about 100 children with Christmas gifts courtesy of a thoughful Havana community.
The Toys for Havana Kids program has been ongoing for several years under the direction of the police department. Kids are selected by submitting applications to the police department and listing what they want for Christmas. Through monetary contributions and toy donations from the community the police department tries to comply with those wishes.
“Toys for Havana Kids is serving about 100 kids this year,” said Havana Police Chief Tracy Smith. “I’d like to thank the local businesses and citizens in the community. Because of their donations we can do this.”
Chief Smith said an average of $50 was spent on each child and gifts included all kinds of toys including shinny new bikes.
