The Munroe volleyball team defeated a very good FAMU-DRS volleyball team twice during the regular season. Once they won in five games, going overtime in the fith game of the match before winning 17-15. The second time they met, the Lady Cats played some of their best volleyball of the year and dominated the Rattlers in three straight games.
Because of those two districts wins, the Lady Cats entered straight into the district final game of District 1-2A and faced FAMU–DRS in their home gym on Thursday. Despite many lead changes in all games, the Munroe team lost in four close games with scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-17, 21-25, and proving it’s tough to beat a good team three times.
Karleebeth Perkins and Maddey Pappadakis led offensively for Munroe, combining for 21 kills. Katie Howell and Olivia Fletcher each added seven kills. Defensively, the team stepped up with seven different players having six digs each. Pappadakis, a junior setter, tossed up 21 assists.
The loss dropped the team to 8-16 on the season and, more importantly, put the team on the road travelling to Jacksonville on Wednesday night to play the District 2-2A champs, Christ’s Church Academy. Should they slip by them and FAMU defeat Peniel Baptist of Palatka, the two will meet again on Nov. 5.
West Gadsden was eliminated from the District 2-1A tournament. That tournament was won by Sneads. East Gadsden also lost in districts. Their District 2-4A tournament was won by Florida High.
