County Clerk Nicholas Thomas warned county commissioners that if spending continued as is, the county would find itself with a serious problem concerning finances. He told commissioners that in the beginning of 2003 the county had $2.6 million in reserves but by the end of the fiscal year reserves were down to $1.8 million. On top of that, the proposed budget called for another $900,000 to be taken from reserves. The reason for the bleak picture: “You are spending more than you are taking in,” the clerk said.
