A single-vehicle rollover crash occurred last Thursday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Havana Elementary School grounds near where school children were playing in the field. Havana police encountered a man standing upright inside the cab of his truck and assisted him in getting out. Another man was sitting on the grass nearby. The driver was observed stumbling and having difficulty walking, states a police report.
John C. Townsend, 52, was given a roadside field sobriety test, states the report, and could not complete it. He was then arrested and taken to the Havana Police Department for an Intoxilyzer test which showed him with a blood alcohol level of .22 (.08 is the limit under Florida law). Both Townsend and his passenger, Daniel R. Harris, were uninjured in the crash.
