Dora Ellen Hanna, 79, of Greensboro, died June 19, 2013 at her home. A long-time resident of Gadsden County, Dora was born on April 21, 1934 in Sopchoppy, Florida and was a graduate of Sopchoppy High School.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hanna. Together they owned Shepard’s Mill, the last water-powered grist mill in Florida. During their twenty years of ownership they transformed a small mill serving local customers into a successful wholesale grocery business serving stores throughout North Florida. Through their 55 years of marriage and friendship, they shared a steadfast commitment to one another, their family and being good citizens of their community. Dora took extreme pride in the success and happiness of her children, grandchildren and great- grandchild.
She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro where she was an active member of the BYKOTA Sunday School class. She previously served as executive director of the Gadsden County Senior Citizens Center and also worked at Talquin Electric Cooperative and the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee.
She is survived by her son Randy Hanna of Tallahassee and his wife, Jerri, her daughter Donna Rowan of Birmingham and her husband Allen and her son Sammy Hanna of Hosford and his wife, Stacy.
She leaves her grandchildren, Carrie Hanna, Tracy Easterwood and her husband Brandon, Curtis Hanna, Jamie Rowan, Dani Taylor, Grace Ellen Hanna, and McKenzie Hanna. She is also survived by her great grandchild, Garrison Easterwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Lola Donella McKenzie of Sopchoppy, her sisters, Myrtice Strickland and Iris Bell and her brothers, John McKenzie, Clinton McKenzie, Paul McKenzie, Sam McKenzie, David Earl McKenzie and Daniel McKenzie.
The family will receive visitors in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro on Friday, June 21 from 6 until 8 pm. Services will be held at the church at 11 am on Saturday, June 22.
