The Big Bend Bears played five games in their opening summer baseball week winning three of the five.
Play started last Tuesday with the Bears splitting a double-header with Tallahassee Post 13 in games played at Chipola.
Post 13 pitcher Nick Breeden threw a no-hitter in the first game and Chase Barineau had a key hit in a 2-0 win for the Tallahassee team.
Big Bend came back to win the second game 3-2 when Andrew Shouse (Marianna) singled in David Black (Liberty Co.) in the bottom of the seventh to plate the walk-off run.
Walker Roberts (Marianna) was the winning pitcher, hurling the last four innings. Roberts allowed only one hit and struck out four.
Hunter Jacobs (Liberty Co.) stole home and Taylor Wood (Blountstown) drew a bases-loaded walk to account for the other Bear runs.
On Saturday at Rickards, Big Bend won the first of a double-header beating the Tallahassee Gnats 6-0. Kole Forehand (Holmes Co.) just missed a perfect game, hitting a batter two outs away from the feat. Forehand did finish with a no-hitter, fanning six.
Forehand also had a pair of hits in the game. Jacky Miles, Jr. (Holmes Co.) scored two runs and Micah McCaskill (Liberty Co.) drove in two runs with a double.
The Wiregrass Cardinals knocked off the Bears 9-2 in a second game Saturday. Black (Liberty Co.) had two hits for Big Bend including a home run and Shouse (Marianna) had two hits including a double.
Myles Edwards (Munroe) pitched a one-hit shutout on Sunday and the Bears dropped the Gnats 10-0.
Josh Taylor (Sneads) drove in five of the Bear runs with two hits, including a triple.
McCaskill (Liberty Co.) and Miles Jr. (Holmes Co.) also had two hits.
