Not that I had anything to write home about already, but this past weekend showed why I would be asking for a handout for a cup of coffee if I lived in Vegas.
Of the four teams I picked out of the Sweet Sixteen only one, Louisville, is going to the Final Four in Atlanta this week.
And, I’ll go ahead and take the Cardinals to win it all, though I think I’ll pull for Michigan who handed Florida their heads on Sunday.
Louisville and Michigan square off Saturday night as does Syracuse and Wichita State in the Georgia Dome. I’ll be pulling for the Shockers in that game. I’ll quickly admit I’m not a Syracuse fan.
I’ll be attending my third Final Four in Atlanta. I’m not real excited about it this time. But like the other times, something fun will happen and there will be some good recollections from the trip.
TEAMS TO BE
The 2012-13 All-County Basketball teams for girl and boys will be announced in next week’s Herald.
Coaches are making nominations and the All-County Banquet will be held Thursday.
It was a banner year for the boys as both East and West Gadsden made it to the FHSAA Finals in Lakeland.
With not a lot of fanfare locally, the Major League Baseball season opened Sunday with Houston defeating the Rangers in a Texas battle.
There was a time, believe it or not, when the opening of the Major Leagues was a big thing everywhere.
Not so anymore. The college basketball season has extended their big weekend into the Major League Baseball season and spring college football has bumped MLB to the back pages in many sports sections.
The season has started, though, and next week I’ll try to predict what I think will happen this year. Take it from me, those, like any of my predictions, are in fun. ‘Cause you sure couldn’t take any of them to the bank.
