HOUSE NUMBERS NEEDED IN MIDWAY

Midway police department Major Tom Murray is asking for help from the residents of Midway.

“If a police officer, who is usually the first responder in an emergency, cannot find someone’s address he is slowed down in his ability to help,” Murray said.

Half of the homes in Midway, Murray said, do not have visible house numbers. Officers then have to figure out which house needs their attention.

It is very confusing for officers and emergency personnel, Murray stated.

“Hanging in the balance to finding the right house can be the life of a beloved family member,” Murray said, adding, “numbers on houses can save lives.”

The Midway Police Department is now in the process of letting the residents know that they need to place their house numbers where they can be visible to emergency personnel.

There is a state law, Murray explained, that requires houses and businesses to have visible numbers at least three inches tall displayed on the front door at least six feet above the base of the building.

“Following these regulations will allow emergency vehicles to respond to the exact location they are sent,” Murray said.

Murry added that the life you save by placing these visible numbers on your home may be your own.

If you would like more information about house and business numbers please call Major Murray at the police department at 850-574-3057.
