Midway council members held a special meeting on Tuesday, March 12th to approve several changes to the city's charter, allowing them to be placed on the city's April ballot.
A resolution approving the changes was passed in a 3-1 vote.
Changes included, in part, one that requires city council members to live in the district they are seeking appointment to fill a vacant seat unless all efforts have been exhausted to get someone within the district; that the mayor may not make a motion or second a motion unless he/she relinquishes the gavel for the duration of the vote; that recommendations for improvement in city government operations by individual council members must be made to and through the city manager to coordinate efforts of all departments 'to achieve the greatest possible savings through the most efficient and sound means available.'
These and other proposed changes to the city's charter may be accessed through Midway city hall at 850.574.2355.
