In county basketball action this past week (it’s still hard to believe it’s basketball season): the East Gadsden girls team blasted West Gadsden by an 83-27 score. The Jaguars scored 37 points IN THE FIRST QUARTER! Ouch. They also defeated Taylor County 67-20 to remain undefeated at 6-0.
West Gadsden pulled away in the 4th quarter to pick up a very impressive, early season win over Leon. The Panthers led by one at the end of the 3rd but won 66-53 at Leon. [Full Story »]
Stephen Andrew Poklemba, “Steve” or “Poky,” 78, of Havana, FL passed away on November 17, 2014 while aboard a cruise ship with his wife and dear friends. Even though it was his heart that caused his death, he had a heart of gold and full of love.

Thanksgiving has been family time in the Bert family. Growing up we always had a lot of family who gathered and enjoyed a big Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the trimmings. We did everything the same each year, from the menu, which included (and still does) cranberry sauce and sweet potato souffle, to the lively conversation around the dinner table. [Full Story »]

Over 70 pieces of art were on display for the opening night of the 16th Annual Art in Gadsden Exhibition at the Quincy Arts Center. A large number of art patrons were on hand to enjoy the exhibition and the opening-night reception. Winners announced by Arts Center Director Zoe Golloway, who was accompanied by art patrons John Lewis and Dave Harbaugh, were Junia Mason-Edmonds and Angela Gould, Best of Show co-winners; Ellen West, Second Place; and Bill Carlin, Third Place.
