It was reported that the crane operator working on the Telogia Creek Bridge near Greensboro felt the roadway giving way underneath his 120-ton crane just before he jumped. In just a few seconds the 3-ton capacity bridge and the crane were at the bottom of the creek. A DEP official said the leaking fuel had been contained on-site and a bigger crane was dispatched to begin cleanup operations. Nearby nursery owner George Hackney also sustained damages from the accident. A new pump house was destroyed by the crane’s falling boom.
